EL BAT awarded for the fastest-growing production capacities for secondary resource processing in Bulgaria
On November 5, 2025, during the official Metallurgist’s Day ceremony organized by the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry (BAMI), EL BAT was honored with the award for the fastest-growing production capacities for secondary resource processing in Bulgaria.
The event, held under the patronage of Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Mr. Rosen Zhelyazkov, gathered representatives from leading industrial organizations, academia, and the professional community — as well as distinguished guests from the Bulgarian Parliament. The ceremony was hosted in partnership with the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy – Sofia.
Prime Minister Zhelyazkov emphasized the importance of the metallurgical sector for the national economy:
“Five percent of Bulgaria’s GDP and twelve percent of the country’s exports are linked to metallurgy. This is a defining industry for our nation and for Europe. It’s not a black-and-white movie production – it’s full of color and added value.”
A recognition for sustainable growth and innovation
The award highlights EL BAT’s rapid development in recent years, supported by substantial investments in new production facilities, cutting-edge technologies, and sustainable practices. Today, EL BAT is among the leaders in lead-acid battery recycling, refined lead, and lead alloy production — a company firmly grounded in the principles of the circular economy, where waste is transformed into valuable resources.
Award presented by Academician Nikolay Denkov
The distinction was presented to Mr. Stanislav Popov personally by Academician Nikolay Denkov, which added exceptional prestige to this year’s ceremony and highlighted the importance of EL BAT’s contribution to the sector.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Popov shared a heartfelt message that resonated strongly with everyone in the hall. He reminded the audience that this is the second consecutive year in which EL BAT receives such recognition — a sign that the company’s efforts are not momentary, but part of a consistent and purposeful path forward.
He expressed deep appreciation to the entire EL BAT team, emphasizing that the award belongs not to an individual, but to all colleagues whose dedication, professionalism, and persistence stand behind every milestone the company achieves.
Mr. Popov also noted that each year EL BAT rises to a new level, expanding its capabilities, improving its processes, and proving that growth is possible when vision meets determination.
He concluded by wishing all companies in the sector to follow the same path of focus, ambition, and purposeful progress, because sustainable development is achieved when the entire industry moves forward together.
Part of an industry of strategic importance
According to BAMI, investments in Bulgaria’s metallurgical sector exceed 5 billion BGN — directed toward advanced technologies, new production capacities, the climate transition, and human capital development.
The sector forms 5% of Bulgaria’s GDP and 15% of national exports, reinforcing its role as a cornerstone of both the national and European economy.
“Metallurgy proves that sustainable production and innovation can go hand in hand. This award is recognition of our team’s dedication and hard work — and an incentive to continue investing in the future of responsible industry,” shared EL BAT’s management.
Appreciation to BAMI and the professional community
EL BAT extends its sincere gratitude to the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry (BAMI) for this honor and for its continued support of the sector’s development.
The award is not only a privilege, but also a responsibility — a commitment to continue driving innovation, sustainable progress, and responsible resource management.
EL BAT — Leading the change in metallurgy.
With innovation. With sustainability. With vision for the future.
