Inside The EL BAT Laboratory – A Pillar of Quality, Innovation, and Sustainable Metallurgy

Since its establishment in 2011, the EL BAT laboratory has played a central role in ensuring uncompromising quality control throughout the production cycle. Multiple analyses are carried out daily to guarantee full compliance with international standards, environmental responsibility, and client specifications across our refined lead and lead alloy production processes.

A Highly Skilled Team Dedicated to Precision

Operating 24/7 in a three-shift system, the laboratory team works closely with production departments to ensure rapid quality control and timely corrective actions. Each laboratory technician is highly qualified and trained to deliver accurate results in a high-paced industrial environment.

At EL BAT, we believe that operational safety starts with precise laboratory analysis. For this reason, we consistently invest not only in cutting-edge equipment but also in the continuous training and specialization of our personnel. Our team applies industry best practices and the latest analytical methods to maintain the highest quality standards.

Advanced Equipment for Complete Chemical and Metal Analysis

The EL BAT laboratory is equipped with a comprehensive suite of modern instruments, including:

  • SPECTROMAXx – used for spark optical emission spectroscopy of incoming materials and process control samples;
  • ARL 4460 Optical Emission Spectrometer – primarily for final product assessment of refined lead and lead alloys;
  • ELTRA Elemental Analyzer – dedicated to sulfur content determination in desulfurized or sulfate-based lead paste;
  • ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry) – a high-sensitivity instrument for analyzing liquid samples, primarily used in sodium sulfate production to detect heavy metals , monitoring of the production process and final quality control
  • Mflow – Melt Flow Rate Tester (MFR) – essential for assessing the melt flow index of recycled polypropylene, ensuring the quality and reusability of the material;
  • Microwave digestion system ETHOS EASY – improves sample preparation for ICP-OES by reducing acid consumption and enhancing purity;
  • Programmable laboratory dryer, new laboratory furnaces ,and a designated sample preparation zone – all contributing to a precise, clean, and efficient workflow.

Data-Driven Process Control and Quality Assurance

From lead paste and metallic slags to sodium sulfate and polypropylene, the laboratory supports every stage of EL BAT’s battery recycling and secondary lead production processes. Real-time testing ensures continuous monitoring and optimization.

  • Desulfurization control – reducing sulfur content in lead paste to below 1%, which is essential for the optimal performance and longevity of short-drum furnaces;
  • Quality grading of sodium sulfate – each big bag is rigorously tested for pH and heavy metals. Upon client request, additional parameters such as sodium carbonate, chlorides, and others are also evaluated to ensure full compliance with individual specifications;
  • Lead recovery from slag and black lead – detailed analyses determine whether the material should be reintegrated into the production cycle or redirected toward alloy casting, ensuring minimal waste and maximum resource utilization;
  • Final product certification – every batch of refined lead or lead alloy undergoes comprehensive testing prior to dispatch. This step is crucial to confirm that the product meets all technical standards and client-specific requirements, serving as the final guarantee of EL BAT’s commitment to consistent quality and reliability.

Supporting Client-Specific Production Needs

Our laboratory plays an essential role in the custom manufacturing of lead alloys, tailoring every batch to client specifications. All alloying elements (such as antimony and calcium) are measured and adjusted to meet strict composition targets. Blocks of black lead are tested and sorted for use in either refined lead or specific alloys based on their analytical profiles.

With each analysis, we not only verify product quality – we build trust with our industrial partners.

Ongoing Investment in Laboratory Expansion

In parallel with the growth of EL BAT’s production capacity, the laboratory is undergoing expansion and modernization. New furnaces are being installed, a dedicated unit for sample preparation is nearing completion, and the laboratory is undergoing further optimization to enhance efficiency and analytical precision.

Reliable Sampling Protocols and Cross-Functional Integration

Samples are collected directly from production facilities by trained personnel using standardized protocols. Whether it’s molten lead formed into discs for testing, slurry samples from desulfurization, or polypropylene taken from every big bag, the sampling process is designed to guarantee precision and cleanliness.

If any deviation in results is detected, sampling frequency increases until the root cause is resolved. Strict traceability and clean sampling ensure the reliability of every lab result.

The EL BAT laboratory is not just a supporting unit—it is the technological and scientific backbone of our production process. Here, expert knowledge meets the power of analytical technology. Thanks to our highly skilled team, continuous investment in equipment, and rigorous internal protocols, we ensure that every product—whether lead alloys, sodium sulfate, or recycled polypropylene—meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and environmental compliance.

As a leading battery recycling company in Europe, our laboratory exemplifies our commitment to the circular economy and sustainable industrial practices.
